Gyula Zsengellér

Gyula Zsengellér [ ɟulɒ ʒɛŋɡɛle ː r] ( * December 27 1915 in Cegléd, † March 29, 1999 in Nicosia ) was a Hungarian football player.

Clubs

The striker Zsengellér played from 1936 to 1947 at Újpest Budapest and scored 387 goals during this time. He is still third in the all-time best list of the Hungarian league. 1947/48 he was a professional in the Italian Serie A AS Roma. After another exchange 1949/50, to Anconitana Ancona in 1951 he went to South America for Colombian club Deportivo Samarios. Here he finished his career in 1952.

For the Hungarian national football team, he participated in the World Cup 1938 in France. With his goals he was instrumental in the Vice World Champion of Hungary. In the final, they lost 2:4 against Italy. With six goals Zsengellér was second in the scoring charts behind the Brazilian Leônidas da Silva. Overall, he brought it to 39 international matches and scored 32 goals.
