Hafler Trio

The Hafler Trio (short: H3O ) is an English music project, which is attributed to the concept art and has presented countless experimental publications since 1984, which can best be classified in the field of ambient and musique concrète and often have a philosophical background.

Despite the misleading name, the Hafler Trio group consists mainly of only Andrew M. McKenzie (born in 1963 in Newcastle upon Tyne ) and changing partners. McKenzie has already released his first single at age 14, after which he founded the punk band Flesh before he turned to experimental electronic music and Hafler Trio 1980 brought into being, which presented a number of publications on various labels since 1984. The publications are usually complemented by explanations of the included sound experiments.

The name Hafler Trio to go back to David Hafler, is said to have developed in the 1940s, a surround-sound system from three speakers. Besides McKenzie was Chris Watson of Cabaret Voltaire a founding member. The third member of the foundation, Dr. Edward Moolenbeek, turned out to be a deception: The name comes from an alleged expert on psychoacoustic research around 1930.

The Hafler Trio also has a soundtrack for Brion Gysin's " dreamachine " recorded, which contained an extensive documentation of the replica of such a device; some copies were sold by the group even yourself.

Published in 1992 Hafler Trio a comprehensive 31 scenes film called Just Because A Cat Has Her Kittens in the Oven Does not Make them Biscuits, whose distribution over Temple Press Ltd. , Connected to the Temple Records Verlag, took place. The film also contained texts of Z'ev and Genesis P-Orridge.

Most of the publications of the Hafler Trio appeared only in relatively small numbers, many recent publications even just in direct sales by Andrew McKenzie. Some albums were reissued but also from major labels such as Mute Records in larger numbers.
