The railway line Hagenow -Schwerin is a two-track, electrified main traffic route in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. It is according to the Berlin- Hamburg railway is the second oldest railway in Mecklenburg.

Route

From Hagenow station land east of the small town Hagenow the route runs almost straight to the northeast by forested areas to Schwerin. From Holthusen where the route of Ludwigslust opens, it goes almost directly north towards Schwerin. Before Schwerin Görries the route from Parchim opens a. Schwerin is cut by a ditch by the railroad track.

History

On February 25, 1846 arose from the Schwerin - Wismarsche Railway Company, the Hagenow, Schwerin and Rostock Railway Company and the Güstrow Bützower Railway Company the Mecklenburg railway company established previously. In view of the already under construction, Berlin- Hamburg Railway, the first railway line to mecklenburgischem ground, the Mecklenburg Railway Company applied for a concession to build a railway from Hagenow to Schwerin, which she received on 10 March 1846 and immediately began with the track construction. On 1 May 1847 Section Hagenow -Schwerin was opened in the following years, compounds of Wismar, Rostock and Güstrow who received Hagenow shore after Berlin and Hamburg.

Initially, two pairs of trains a day perverse between Rostock and Wismar Hagenow with feeders and Güstrow. With the construction of additional rail lines in northern Germany but decreased the importance of the route Hagenow - Schwerin. By the railway line Lübeck- Bad little traffic in the direction of Hamburg was passed over Lübeck from 1870. Since 1888, the connection between Ludwig lust for Holthusen was in operation, also shifted the traffic in the direction of Berlin and Magdeburg on this slightly shorter distance. The railway line Hagenow - Schwerin was henceforth mainly local traffic. For example, in 1905 five pairs of passenger commuted between Schwerin and Hagenow country, six in 1934, partly on to Wismar. In the 1980s, there were four pairs of trains that drove up to the border station Schwanheide. There was also a D- pair of trains, an inter-zone to Hamburg.

On December 31, 1992, a severe rear-end collision, when the express train from Rostock to Leipzig collided head-on with a shunting occurred in the station of Holthusen.

After the German reunification, the line was expanded as part of the German Unity Transport Project No. 1 ( Lübeck / Hagenow country -Rostock - Stralsund ). The 18 km long section of Hagenow country to Holthusen was extended and electrified to a second track. The Holthusen station was rebuilt so can drive the trains from Hagenow country towards Schwerin 160 km / h and from the direction of Ludwig Lust with 130 km / h. In Schwerin Hauptbahnhof train platforms were extended and equipped with an electronic signal box from which also the section from Hagenow country was controlled to Bad kids. In 1996, the developed section in operation. The travel time from Rostock to Hamburg Hagenow is thus shorter than those on Lübeck.

Current situation

The route is ( Hanse- Express) traveled by regional express trains on the Rostock- Hamburg every two hours, supplemented by some additional trains during rush hour. Also every two hours run intercity trains of the line ( Binz ) Stralsund, Rostock, Schwerin and Hamburg and on to West or West Germany. Additional regional rail line RB 11 between Schwerin and Hagenow country, which were tied up by the suburban railway station Hagenow were canceled at the timetable change in December 2012 as part of larger cost-cutting measures by the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Since then, the breakpoints are Kirch Jesar and Zachun only irregularly served by the HVZ - line amplifiers RE 1.
