Hagop Baronian

Hagop Baronian (Armenian Յակոբ Պարոնեան reformed Հակոբ Պարոնյան pronounced in Ostarmenischen as Hakop Paronyan; born August 6, 1843, in Edirne, † 1891 in Istanbul ) was an Ottoman- Armenian writer, satirist, educator, journalist, and social scientists. Baronian is directly followed by Yervant Odian, as the greatest Armenian satirist of all time viewed.

Hagop Baronians most famous work was the book Medzabadiv Muratsganner ( Honorable Beggars ), which parodies the almost beggar -like situation of writers and editors in the era of Sultan Abdulhamid II. Baronian was also known for his biting, sarcastic criticism from leaders among the Armenians in Istanbul. Some of his critical comments published in his book Azkayin Chocher. Unfortunately, he suffered the same fate as his own characters in the book Medzabadiv Mouratsganner. He died penniless and without money in the streets of Istanbul. He was buried in the Armenian cemetery in Istanbul, the exact location of his grave is unknown.
