Haim Hazaz

Chaim Hasas ( other spellings: Haim Hazaz and Hayim Hazaz, born September 16, 1898 in Sydorowytschi, † March 24, 1973 in Jerusalem) was an Israeli writer.

Life

Born in Czarist Russia, emigrated in 1931 from Hasas to Jerusalem. In his prose he describes the life of the Jews in the newly formed Soviet Union as well as the immigrants in Palestine and Israel. His play in the last days of 1934 is about the self-proclaimed Messiah Shabbtai Zvi.

In 1953 he was awarded the Israel Prize in the category of literature, in 1942 and 1970, the Bialik Prize.
