Haines City is a city in Polk County in the U.S. state of Florida with 20,535 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

The town is located about 35 km northeast of Bartow and about 50 km southwest of Orlando.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 20,535 inhabitants distributed to 9,076 households. The population density was 955.1 inh. / Km ². 53.4 % of the population were white, 27.5 % African American, 0.5% Native American and 1.4% Asian Americans. 14.4% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.7% in different ethnic groups. 38.9 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 31.0 % of all households lived in 40.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 75.5 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.96 and the average family size is 3.35 people.

30.8 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.3 % were 20-39 years old, 22.4% were 40-59 years old and 19.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 34 years. 49.4 % of the population were male and 50.6 % female.

The average annual income was $ 36,261, while 25.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 75.10 % of the population spoke Spanish 22.14 % and 2.76 % had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

Haines City is the U.S. Highways 17, 27 and 92 (SR 600 ) and the Florida State Roads 17 and 544 crosses. The Orlando International Airport is approximately 60 km northeast of the city.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 327 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were five rapes, 40 robberies, 82 injuries, 239 burglaries, 560 thefts, 33 auto thefts and two arsons.
