Haley Irwin

Haley Lyn Irwin ( born June 6, 1988 in Thunder Bay, Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who plays since 2012 for the Montreal Stars in the Canadian Women's Hockey League ( CWHL ).

Career

Haley Irwin played until the age of 16 years in boys' teams and was the first girl in Thunder Bay, which was included in that of the AAA level. At 16 she joined the woman and was inducted into the Hockey U22 national of Canada.

With the regional selection team of Ontario, the Ontario Reds, she won the National Women's Under-18 tournament in 2005 in Salmon Arm, BC. At club level, she played for the Toronto Aeros junior, with whom they each won the championship of the PWHL and the Regional Championship of the OWHA 2005 and 2006. During the season 2005/ 06 she was team captain of the Aeros and was both in season 2004/ 05, and 2005 /06 awarded as MVP of the Aeros. In 2007 she was re-appointed in Ontario's national team and won the bronze medal with the national championship ( Esso Women's Nationals ).

Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs

In summer 2007, Shannon Miller picked as head coach for women's hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth and former head coach of Canada Haley Irwin at the University of Minnesota. In autumn 2007, Irwin began studying public health and played in parallel for the Bulldogs, the ice hockey team of the University, in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association ( WCHA ). In the 2007 /08 season Irwin was top-scorer of the WCHA and was awarded at the end of the season as a rookie of the year. In addition, she was elected to the First Team All-Star Team, All- Rookie team and WCHA All- Tournament. In the decisive game for the championship of the NCAA Division I Irwin scored the winning goal.

During her sophomore season at the University of Irwin scored 22 goals and 22 assits in 39 games and reached the Bulldogs again the NCAA "Frozen Four" tournament. In addition, she was re-elected to the All- WCHA team. During the 2009/10 season she paused from college hockey and prepared himself instead with the national team at the Olympic Winter Games 2010.

During the season 2010/11 Irwin was again top scorer of the WCHA and finished with a points average of 2.29 points per game (32 points: 17 goals, 15 assists in 14 games ) Second place in this NCAA -wide ranking. For the following season, she was re-appointed as captain of the Bulldogs. In the game against the Minnesota State University, Mankato 18 February 2012 Irwin scored the 200th point scorer of their NCAA career.

Internationally

For Canada, Irwin took part in the World Championships in 2009 and 2011. In addition, she stood in the line-up of their country at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010 and 2014 in Sochi. In the years 2009 and 2010 she participated each with their team at the 4 Nations Cup.
