The Hallgarter pliers at Hall Garden in the Hessian Rheingau- Taunus-Kreis is a 580 m above sea level. NN high- southeast foothills of the Cold hostel ( 619.3 m) in the Taunus.
Since it is the main ridge of the Taunus ( High Taunus) upstream slightly to the south, it appears from some, from the Rhine -seen perspective somewhat higher than about 1 km from the Cold hostel, the highest elevation of the Rheingau.

Geography
Location
The Hallgarter pliers located in the southwest of the Rhine -Taunus. While her biggest part is in the district of the City Hall garden Oestrich- angle with the nearly 5 km to the south Oestrich, its eastern flank falls in the municipality of Eltville. Nearby towns are next to Hall garden in the south-southeast Kiedrich in the east-southeast and Stephanshausen in West southwest.
The spur of the Hall Zange, branching from running in the northeast-southwest direction Taunus main ridge, falls to the southeast along the south-west of its summit springing Leimer Bach of vineyards interspersed Rheingau landscape and the Oestrich- Winkel district Hall garden to the nearby Rhine back from.
While the highlands of the Hallgarter pliers are entirely forested, located in the lower area of their southeastern flank vineyards.
Nature Spatial allocation
The Hallgarter pliers counts in the main physiographic unit Taunus group (No. 30) and in the main unit High Taunus (301) for natural area Rheingau Mountains ( 301.1 ).
Development
Lookout and picnic area
On the Hallgarter pliers is the successor building a 1884 built by the Wiesbaden Taunus Club lookout tower made of wood, which was 14 m high. The original building was replaced by a 1906-1909 built by migrant bird - movement tower and inaugurated on September 19, 1909. While the view from the tower usually falls to the Great Feldberg, Melibokus, Thunder Mountain and on the skyline of Frankfurt am Main and Mainz, he is currently closed.
Next to the tower is also currently a closed tourist restaurant at the once the highest beer garden was attached in the Rheingau. After plans failed to convert the property into a hotel restaurant with apartments, there is a construction and investment ruin. There are no concrete plans for future use of the land that no longer is a historical monument since 2003.
Aviator Monument and ring wall
About 100 m northwest of the mountain top is the flyer Memorial Hall Zange, reminiscent of the crash of a mail plane in 1935 and the death of the crew to pilot Franz Kneer.
Nearly 600 m east-northeast of the summit can be found on an approximately 525 meters high secondary summit the weak remnants of the ring wall Hallgarter pliers, which probably served as a refuge of 2.3 kilometers east-southeast located Eberbach Monastery.
Saga
The rock is related to a legend in which a blacksmith for the devil shoed a horse and it was a pair of pliers, which turned everything into gold. She brought him nothing but misfortune, so he threw himself from the rock and his body was found with the forceps, which had by his death lost its magic.
Transport and Hiking
The Hall Zange is located far away from major roads, but leads the county road 634, which branches off the Rhine at Oestrich- angle near the castle Reichartshausen of the trending Had home country road 3320 with a direct connection to the highway 42, up to Hall garden and then as Rebhangstraße to the north this village located settlement on Rebhang. From here a forest track runs up to about 565 m height located Wanderparkplatz circle fir ( ⊙ 50.0507222222228.0085 ). On forest trails and paths can then be run to Hallgarter pliers or Cold hostel; between the two surveys through and past the local forest park leads a piece of the right-bank part of the Rheinhöhe path which there shares a path segment with the European long-distance hiking E3.
