Hancock is a town in Hancock County, Maine, United States, with 2,394 inhabitants ( 2010 census ). The city was founded in 1794 and is named after John Hancock.
Geography
According to data from the United States Census Bureau, the town area extends over an area of 100.1 km ²; of which 77.2 km ² land and 22.9 km ² water surface ( 22.85% ). The Hancock Grammar School is located here.
Demography
According to the census of 2000, there were 2,147 residents in Hancock, who divided to 927 households and 596 families. The population density was 27.8 inhabitants per km ².
The racial the population was composed of 97.39 % White, 0.33% African descent, 0.42 % of Native American, 0.47 % Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.14 % from other lineage, and 1.21% two or more lineages. 0.51 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
