Hank Mizell

Hank Mizell ( born November 9, 1923 in Daytona Beach, Florida as William M. Mizell, † December 23, 1992 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee ) was an American singer, guitarist and songwriter. He was known primarily for his rockabilly single Jungle Rock by 1958, which gained an amazing popularity, 18 years after its first publication in 1976.

Biography

After his military service in World War II Mizell began a career as a singer. Nicknamed " Hank " after the country musician Hank Williams, he received a radio host.

As Jungle rock appeared in 1958, it was not a commercial success. Also a new edition in 1959 was unsuccessful. In the early 1960s gave Mizell on his music career and became a preacher of the Church of Christ. He was married and had four children.

In 1971, Jungle rock on the Dutch Sampler Rock ' n ' Roll, Vol 1 (erroneously guitarist Jim Bobo attributed ). Thus, the British record label Charly Records on the piece was attentive and it came in March 1976 to a re-release, which reached # 3 in the Netherlands and even # 1 on the music charts in the UK. In Germany the song reached number 27 in April 1976 Jungle rock was listed in the British TV show Top of the Pops, but without Hank Mizell (now 53 years old ), which could not be distended.

The song " Jungle Rock" has been covered among others by Shakin 'Stevens & the Sunsets, the Tail Gators and The Fall. A German version is by Frank Rothe & the Young Ones, the French version of Charles Jerome bears the title Dingue de rock.
