Hanno Selg

Hanno Selg ( born May 31, 1932 in Tartu) is a former Soviet modern pentathlete and Estonian university teacher.

Career

Hanno Selg was initially active as a skier. As part of the championships of the Estonian SSR in 1952, he won a silver medal in the 4x10 km relay and a bronze medal in the slalom. From 1953 to Selg devoted reinforced the modern pentathlon and was able to win six league titles of the Estonian SSR in this sport until 1965. There were also a single title in fencing and a title in the Winter Pentathlon. 1960 Selg became the first and last time Soviet champion in modern pentathlon and was subsequently nominated for the Olympic Games in Rome. There he won the silver medal in the team competition and finished third in the individual competition tenth. In 1960 he was also named the athlete of the year in the Estonian SSR. In 1965 he ended his active career and worked until 1979 as a coach and referee in the modern pentathlon. From 1979 to 1994 Selg taught at the University of Tartu. Since 1995 he is the owner of a private bus company that offers its services in the transport of Tartu.
