Hans Karl Burgeff

Hans Karl Burgeff ( born April 20, 1928 in Würzburg, † November 25, 2005 in Lohmar ) was a German sculptor, medalist and art professor, who worked mainly in the Rhineland.

As the son of Hans Burgeff, a university professor of botany, he studied first " General Science " at the University of his native city of Würzburg, and later in Stuttgart and Tübingen in the art history. In 1951 he moved to the Cologne factory schools, studied sculpture and sculpture with Prof. Ludwig Gies and was promoted in 1956 to the master student.

From 1957, independently, Burgeff was quickly known for its predominantly sacred objects, such as church portals, cafeterias altar, crucifixes and statues of saints. In 1968 he received the Prize of the City of Cologne sculptor and the appointment to the Cologne factory schools ( as the successor to Kurt Schwippert ) as professor of sculpture and bronze sculpture.

Especially is the Münstersche plaque for Cardinal Hoffner of 1993. Works by the artist for the " public impact " of Burgeffs figures, reliefs and plaques are among others in the sculpture park of Schloss Moyland and the Cologne Cathedral.

Among the many awards and honors he received, was in 2001 awarded honorary membership of the German Society of Arts medal.

Hans Karl Burgeff was buried in women (Eifel ), the grave, two ears of corn representing bundle, created his last master class, Ulrich Görtz.

The estate of the medal creation of Hans Karl Burgeff received the Numismatic Collection of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
