Hans Sturzenegger

Hans Konrad Sturzenegger ( born 2 May 1875 in Schaffhausen, † November 19, 1943 in Zurich ) was a Swiss painter.

Biography

Sturzenegger came from a wealthy business family of Schaffhausen, which enabled him to visit the Karlsruhe Art Academy. After completing his studies, he returned to his native town and was directed in the house Belair a studio. The small picturesque castle which is located on the edge of route 65 and where today is located the hostel in Schaffhausen, became the center of an artist circle. Sturzenegger maintained contacts with Hermann Hesse and the surrounding circle of artists of Gaienhofen on Lake Constance. Among other things wrong also the painter Ernst Kreidolf in the house Belair.

His friendship with Hermann Hesse remained very intense even after his move to MOntagnola in Ticino. It was performed an intensive exchange of letters, repeatedly visited Sturzenegger the poet and portrayed him. Hesse again portrayed Sturzenegger literarily in his novel Rosshalde by gave the figure of the painter Veraguth certain traits Sturzenegger. 1911 took Sturzenegger together with Hesse a trip to India. She led the two artists about Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore ( where the family Sturzenegger was an entrepreneur ) to Sumatra. On the journey Hesse wrote numerous records, poems and stories, which, supplemented by drawings and watercolors by Sturzenegger, 1913 published anthology.

1943, shortly after his return from a visit to Hesse in Montagnola, Sturzenegger died in Zurich. The Belair House Hostel is for 50 years.
