Hans von Gronau

Johann (Hans) Karl Hermann Gronau, from 1913 by Gronau ( born December 6, 1850 in Alt- Schadow, † February 22, 1940 in Potsdam) was a Prussian officer, most recently General of Artillery and Military Governor of Thorn.

Life

Hans Gronau came from a living in the 17th century in the Bergische Land teacher's family, the son of the royal Prussian forester Johann Karl Ludwig Hermann Gronau ( 1816-1911 ) from Köpenick and the Alexandrine Friederike Bertha Leusenthin ( 1823-1903 ) from the United Dolls ( county was Ortelsburg, East Prussia ) and great-grandson of the Berlin pastor and meteorologist Karl Ludwig Gronau ( 1742-1826 ).

Gronau occurred on 13 April 1869 as an ensign in the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade in Szczecin. In 1880 to 1882 he was reassigned to the General Staff. From 1894 he was head of department as a lieutenant colonel in the general staff. In 1903 he was appointed commander of the 1st Division and appointed governor of Thorn in 1907. In 1908 he was appointed general of artillery à la suite of the Field Artillery Regiment " General Feldzeugmeister " (1 Brandenburg ) No 3 is conveyed in Brandenburg an der Havel. On 8 June 1911 he was called into question. In recognition of his achievements took place on June 16, 1913 in Berlin, his elevation to the Prussian nobility.

With the beginning of World War Gronau was reactivated and appointed on 2 August 1914 to Commanding General of the IV Reserve Corps, with which he participated in the first battle of the Marne. In September 1915 he was Commanding General of the XLI. Reserve Corps on the Eastern Front. From 5 August 1916 to 31 December 1917, he was commander of the eponymous Army Division of Gronau ( Army Group G). In February 1919, he retired from the military service.

Gronau married on 23 February 1890 in Granow ( county Arnswalde ) Luise Gerischer ( born July 20, 1867 in Granow, † June 25, 1926 in Potsdam). The eldest of his three sons was the ocean flyer Wolfgang von Gronau.
