Hans Witdoeck

Hans Witdoeck, (* around 1615 in Antwerp, † unknown ) was a Flemish engraver.

Hans Witdoeck was, around 1630 students from Lucas Vorsterman and worked with the painter Cornelius Schut later. In 1635 he entered the service of Peter Paul Rubens, for whom he performed a number of engravings after his works. In art history, he is more recognized for his skill of Grabstichelführung and overall decorative effect of this work, as for the accuracy and rigor of the design.

The best known works are:

  • Abraham and Melchizedek, 1638
  • The Raising of the Cross, 1638
  • The Assumption of the Virgin, 1639

On June 24, 1642 he married Catharina Gommaerts.
