Hara (Swedish Harga ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Noarootsi ( Noarootsi vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.

Population and location

The village has 34 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). The Baltic Sea is located on the same bay ( Hara Laht ). There is a small harbor, which is inappropriate for larger boats.

Earlier, the area was an island that is only connected by uplift of the country in the second half of the 14th century to the mainland. It was first mentioned in records in 1341 under the name Herkenlayde.

The place name is once again officially bilingual Estonian and Swedish, as the village used to belong to the traditional settlement area of ​​the Estonian Swedes.
