Harald Cramér

Harald Cramér (* September 25, 1893; † 5 October 1985) was a Swedish mathematician and statistician. Cramér taught from 1929 to 1958 as a professor at Stockholm University, whose rector or later he was university chancellor from 1950 to 1961.

Professional

His well-known theorem of Cramér states that the summands of a sum of independent normally distributed random variables is also normally distributed. In addition, the set of Cramér -Wold from measure theory is named after Harald Cramér and Herman Ole Andreas Wold.

In addition to his main area of mathematical statistics, Cramér also made significant contributions to the study of the distribution of primes and twin primes. For his work in 1972 he was honored by the Royal Statistical Society with the Guy Medal in Gold.

His doctoral include Kai Lai Chung and Herman Wold.
