Harald Høffding

Harald Høffding ( born March 11, 1843 in Copenhagen, † July 2, 1931 ) was a Danish philosopher who stood in his homeland in the highest esteem.

He initially worked as a teacher before he became in 1883 a professor at the University of Copenhagen. In his philosophical views he was first influenced by Søren Kierkegaard, before turning to the positivism.

Almost all of his works were translated into German. Particularly well known were his history of philosophy and its psychological study of humor as a way of life ( Den store Humor: en psychologisk study).
