Harold Jacob Smith

Harold Jacob Smith ( born July 2, 1912 in New York City, New York, † December 28, 1970 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American film actor and screenwriter who along with Nedrick Young 1959 Oscar Best in category Original Screenplay received for The Defiant Ones.

Biography

In 1957 he was first involved with the screenplay to escape to Mexico by Allan Dwan in the production of a film.

For the original screenplay for the film version of The Defiant Ones by Stanley Kramer in 1958 he was awarded in 1959, together with Nedrick Young with the Oscar for best original screenplay. At the same time he and Young were given for this purpose also the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Screenplay, the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Screenplay (1958 ) and the Writers Guild of America Award for Best American Drama (1959). In the film he played beyond the role of the prison transport driver.

At the Academy Awards in 1961 he was jointly nominated with Young for the Oscar for best adapted screenplay and indeed for Inherit the Wind (1960 ) by Stanley Kramer.
