Harold Stirling Vanderbilt

Harold Stirling Vanderbilt (* July 6, 1884; † July 4, 1970 ) was an American multi-millionaire, whose fortune came from the estate of his grandfather Cornelius Vanderbilt.

1925 perfected Harold S. Vanderbilt on a cruise with friends on the " Finland", the bridge rules. While driving through the Panama Canal, he developed from Whist and auction bridge the Contract Bridge by, summarized various ideas such as the introduction of the threats and address system to a bidding and play system is easy to understand. Thus he created a new card game, which began its triumphal march around the world: Contract Bridge, also known as the queen of card games.

In 1928, the first national championship was played in the United States: the Vanderbilt Cup.
