Harsco

Harsco is a US-based industrial services company, operating mainly in the sectors of steel and iron industry, track construction, energy and environmental technology. Headquarters of the Group is Camp Hill, a suburb of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

History

The company was founded in 1853 as The Harrisburg Car Manufacturing Company initially manufactured railroad cars for passenger and freight transport ( including one of the first American refrigerator car ). A successor company, the Harrisburg Pipe & Pipe Bending Company, was concerned in the 1890s with pipe - bending plant production and in particular for refrigerators and was involved in the construction of the first powered with artificial ice skating rink in the world in Pittsburgh. 1902 began the first American manufacturer with the production weld -free compressed gas cylinder and became one of America's leading manufacturer of oxygen tank. 1935, the company was renamed in Harrisburg Steel Corporation; it produced, among other accessories for pipelines. 1956 Harrisburg Steel merged with its subsidiaries and went as Harsco Corporation on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: HSC), where the stock 400 Index and Russell 1000 Index is listed today in the S & P MidCap. The largest single shareholder with a share of 6% of the U.S. investment companies Earnest Partners (November 2008).

Structure

The business activities of Harsco is divided into three divisions, where Harsco is always among the market leaders:

  • Mill Services: services for the steel processing ( plant and entertaining, logistics, slag waste management, etc.). This division forms the British group MultiServ. It deals in more than 30 countries around 160 sites representing more than 12,000 employees. The division generated 2007 revenue of $ 1.5 billion ( 41%).
  • Access Services: This segment includes mainly the production of scaffolding, formwork and the like. Him form the British SGB Group, the German company Hünnebeck ( since November 2005) and the U.S. Patent Construction Systems. With 6,500 employees, the area Access Services 2007 sales of 1.4 billion U.S. dollars generated ( 39%).
