Hasan Ferit Alnar

Ferid Alnar ( Hasan Ferit Alnar; born March 11, 1906 in Istanbul, † 1978 in Ankara) was a Turkish composer.

Alnar studied from 1927 to 1932 in Vienna with Joseph Marx and Oswald Kabasta. After that he was in Istanbul first conductor at the theater and teacher of music history at the Conservatoire, from 1937 to 1946 teacher of composition and then to 1953, chief conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra. From 1954 to 1960 he served as general music director of the Staatsoper in Ankara, where he then worked as a guest conductor. He belonged to the Turkish Five, the group of the first professional composer Turkey to the still, Ulvi Cemal Erkin, Ahmet Adnan Saygun and Necil Kâzım Akses include Cemal Resit Rey except him.

Alnar composed operas, stage and film music. He also wrote concertos ( a cello concerto, a concerto for kanun ), a string quartet, a piano trio, a suite for piano and orchestra, piano pieces and songs. His compositions are influenced by the folk music of his homeland.
