Hasret Gültekin

Hasret Gultekin ( born May 1, 1971 in Han at Imranli, Sivas province, † July 2, 1993 in Sivas ) was an Alevi musicians and saz player.

Life

On May 1, 1971 Hasret Gultekin was born as the third child of the spouses Suleyman Gultekin and Haci in the village of Han in Imranli in the province of Sivas in Turkey. At the age of six, he was enthusiastic about the traditional saz, which belongs to the inventory of Anatolian folk music, as well as the lute, selpe and Cura. At age six, he mastered the technique of the lute and approached his models Arif Sag, Muhlis Akarsu, Yavuz Top and Musa Eroğlu.

At age eleven, he got to know the stage. The Anatolian High School ( Anadolu Lisesi ) in Istanbul, he left in the second class to be traditional musicians.

As a 16 -year-old Gultekin published his first debut album Gün Olaydı ( Would it still day ), which he self-produced. In the same year he also gave his first solo concert at the Moda Sinema at Kadıköy in Istanbul.

He traveled from Anatolia to Spain to his penchant to explore with folk artists for initial folk music, where he was inspired both by the Spanish flamenco music as well as of the Greek rebetiko music. One of his mentors and teachers of this time was the famous Usta (Master) talip Özkan.

By 1987, Gultekin was musical director of numerous productions. He accompanied several singers and musicians on baglama, saz, selpe and Cura. Cura is a special kind of Bağlama. Selpe and baglama dominate very few professional Usta.

1989 saw its further production Gece Gündüz İle arasında ( Between Day and Night ), which he recorded with the renowned arranger Oğuz Abadan and the Symphony Orchestra of Istanbul.

In October 1989 he followed the invitation of the Dutch cultural presentation on " Festival Young Turks" and represented together with Birsel Acar, Turkey. In 1990, he was invited back to the "Turkish week " in the Netherlands.

In 1990 the debut album came Newroz - Kürtçe Ezgiler ( Newroz - Kurdish melodies) out, his first album with exclusively Kurdish folk songs, which he brought out for political reasons only in instrumental version in Turkey. Here he shows how to use on a saz with 3 strings, the technique of selpe. At this time, the Turkish government banned the Kurdish culture and language is strictly forbidden. In the same year Gultekin (life) to complete his works in his native language to Kurdish produced his album Jiyan in Cologne.

1991 arranged Hasret Gultekin as producer, the album Kirivo of Kurdish folk singer Şivan Perwer and helped significantly to support the silent protest of the Kurds. Other productions were sung by Nilüfer Akbal and Riza Akkoç albums Newroz Newroz 1 and 2 In the same year he published Rüzgarın Kanatlarında ( On the Wings of the Wind), another solo production. Gultekin has in this album his own poems as well as poems by Pir Sultan Abdal, Nazim Hikmet, Ahmet Arif and other poets composed and interpreted.

In 1992, Hasret Gultekin participated in numerous non-profit concerts and cultural events in Turkey and in Europe, where he focused on the representation of Turkish folk music.

In 1992 and 1993 he prepared three separate productions: one with instrumental and authentic folk music and various instruments and modern interpretation, a series of albums with authentic folk music from various regions of Anatolia, a production of old, oral tradition Alevi songs.

In April 1993, he organized under the slogan Egenin Iki Yakasi ( The two banks of the Aegean), which are available for Greece and Turkey, in several Turkish cities, including Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara, concerts with the Greek group " Prosechos " from Frankfurt.

On 2 July 1993 Hasret Gultekin took part in Sivas on 4 Pir Sultan Abdal - Festival. In the hotel Madimak he was with 34 other artists, writers and young Alevis victim of an arson attack by Islamic fundamentalists. At the age of 22, he died in this attack.

In April 1994, was established both in Istanbul and in the Cologne - Hasret Gultekin - cultural center that wants to continue the heritage and worldview of the late musician. In Turkey, the cornerstone and foundation of a music library has been laid, which is guided audio- didactic and also cataloged in writing the Anatolian wealth of folk music, songs, poems and biographies and archived. Two more albums were published posthumously by Hasret Gultekin - Cultural Centre in April 1994.
