Haute-Vienne

The department of Haute -Vienne [ otvjɛn ] is a French department of order number 87 It is in the center of the country, in the Limousin region and is named after the river Vienne.

Geography

The Haute- Vienne is bordered to the north by the department of Vienne and Indre, on the east by the department of Creuse, in the southeast of the département of Corrèze, in the southwest of the Dordogne, and to the west by the department of Charente.

The department is located in the northwestern foothills of the Massif Central, the southeast extends into the Millevaches Plateau. The most important river is the eponymous Vienne, which rises in the plateau Millevaches, the department reached from the southeast, then turns to the west, the capital of central Limoges passes through and leaves the department in the second largest city of Saint- Junien. The north of the department pervades the Gartempe. The South West is part of the Périgord -Limousin Regional Natural Park.
