Hawker Aircraft

Hawker Aircraft Limited was a British aircraft manufacturer. Particularly famous is their combat aircraft such as the Hawker Hurricane and Hawker Typhoon from the time of the Second World War.

History

The Hawker Aircraft Ltd.. was founded in 1920 by Harry Hawker, Thomas Sopwith and Fred Sigist as " HG Hawker Engineering Co. Ltd. "was founded. Predecessor was the Sopwith Aviation Company bankrupt. There were production sites in Kingston, Langley, Dunsfold and Blackpool. In 1933 the company was renamed " Hawker Aircraft Ltd. ", a year later, the acquisition of Gloster Aircraft Company.

Hawker Siddeley

In 1935 the company was combined with the engine and vehicle manufacturers Armstrong Siddeley and Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft whose daughter and Hawker Siddeley Aircraft Ltd. in. renamed. In the same year, the aircraft manufacturer AV Roe and Company was part of the group. 1960 De Havilland came and Blackburn Aircraft added.

Hawker Aircraft initially continued manufacturing its own designs under his own name. It was not until 1963, the old names were dropped within the Hawker Siddeley group. The Hawker P.1127 was the last model, which was given the brand name " Hawker ".

1977 ends the history of Hawker Siddeley through the merger with BAC and Scottish Aviation to British Aerospace. The last type of aircraft, which was developed in Kingston, was the Hawker Siddeley Hawk. This type was further developed by British Aerospace and later McDonnell Douglas (USA).

The U.S. company Raytheon, in 1993, the business aircraft division of British Aerospace. Raytheon Aircraft (since 2007 Hawker Beechcraft ) since produced business jets under the old designation Hawker.

Products

In the interwar period Hawker put forth different military aircraft for the Royal Air Force, including the Hawker Hind and the Hawker Hart. During the Second World War, additional models were added, including the Hawker Hurricane.
