History

Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft was established in 1912 as a department of the aircraft armaments company Sir WG Armstrong Whitworth & Co., Ltd.. in Newcastle -upon- Tyne.

1920 acquired the Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft engines and automobile manufacturers Siddeley Deasy. Then the engine and vehicle areas of both companies were combined under the umbrella of Armstrong Siddeley, while the aerospace division of Sir WG Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft Company was.

1927, and the amalgamation of Vickers and Armstrong Whitworth. Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft and Armstrong Siddeley were not incorporated in the new group, but sold to John Davenport Siddeley. The aircraft Vickers found since then under the name " Vickers - Armstrong " took place.
