Hebburn

Part of the country

Hebburn is a small town on the south bank of the River Tyne in North East England and is situated between Jarrow and Bill Quay. Hebburn has 18,808 inhabitants.

History

In the 14th century the country was of a Pele tower ( watch tower ) dominates. A 1.4 m high wall thereof is preserved to this day at the St. John's Church. The sovereignty over the manor house ( manor ) of Hebburn was exercised during the Middle Ages by several families.

Hebburn today

The local football club is the Hebburn Town FC The sports stadium Monkton Stadium is also home to the sports club Jarrow and Hebburn AC. Nationally known runners were Brendan Foster, Steve Cram and David Sharp.

The Parachutist Regiment 4th Para Reserves is based in Hebburn.

Hebburn has a wind- furnished ecology center.

Shipbuilding

Hebburns economically most famous company was in 1870 that results from the merger of the shipyard A. Leslie and Company, Hebburn with the locomotive manufacturer R. and W. Hawthorn from St. Peter's in Newcastle upon Tyne shipyard Hawthorn, Leslie & Company. One of the most famous ships built at Hawthorn Leslie 1938 was passed by the stack and commanded by Louis Mountbatten HMS Kelly. The Hawthorn Leslie shipyard in Hebburn strain was closed in 1982, and sold the rest at Cammell Laird company. In 2001 it was sold to the A & P Group, but has since remained unused. However, the actual company remained despite the loss of shipbuilding exist and focused on the telecommunication business. In March 1993, Vodafone bought the company and turned it the mobile service provider.
