Hedi Slimane

Hedi Slimane ( born July 5, 1968 in Paris ) is a French fashion designer, artist and photographer.

Life

The son of a Tunisian father and an Italian mother studied politics and art history at the École du Louvre in Paris and lived a long time in Berlin. 1996 Yves Saint Laurent took the then unknown Slimane into the company and made him the chief designer of men's clothing. In this position Slimane made ​​the breakthrough in the fashion scene, thanks to its narrow cuts and silhouettes and a pronounced waist he set new standards in the men's fashion. He left the company in 1999. Since 2000 Slimane designed for the LVMH group as head designer of the fashion house Christian Dior, the Dior Homme men's collections of the winter collection 2001/2002 until the winter collection 2007/ 2008. His successor is the Belgian Kris Van Assche, a former of Slimane's assistant. In March 2012, Yves Saint Laurent announced that Slimane took over from now on the creative direction of the label both for men and for the women's collection.

Hedi Slimane, who commutes between his residences Paris and Los Angeles, is currently busy with various exhibitions in museums worldwide.

  • As an outspoken indie - rock fan Slimane is very rooted in this scene.
