Hedwig Jagiellon, Electress of Brandenburg

Hedwig Jagiellonica, actually Jadwiga Jagiellonka (* March 15, 1513 in Poznan, † February 7, 1573 in Neuruppin ) was a Polish princess from the Jagiellonian dynasty. She was from 1535 Electress of Brandenburg.

Life

Hedwig was the daughter of the Polish king Sigismund I of Poland from his marriage to Barbara Zápolya, daughter of the Hungarian palatine and magnates Stephan Zápolya.

She married on 1 September 1535 Krakow the Brandenburg Elector Joachim II. She accompanied her husband in 1541 to the Diet of Regensburg. When Joachim Luther accepted the doctrine, they remained life in their Catholic faith, what you promised the spouse after interventions from Krakow.

Electress Hedwig died on 7 February 1573 Neuruppin.
