Geography

The village Heiligenfelde in northern Saxony-Anhalt is on the Altmark height, a low ridge which separates the basins of the rivers Jeetze and tuck / Aland another. In the north, west and south of the district Heiligenfelde borders the Altmark Salzwedel. The small town of Arendsee (Altmark ) is about seven kilometers away.

History

Heiligenfelde was first mentioned in records in 1235th This was done in connection with an exchange of goods, which the Margrave John and Otto of Brandenburg met the monastery Arend. Urn grave fields from the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age have been found in the district Heiligenfelde.

Attractions

  • The village church was built around 1180 of fieldstone. It consists of a rectangular nave and a choir retracted with a straight end. Through a far -entrant triumphal arch and nave are separated. Both rooms have a beautifully decorated beamed ceiling with coffered classification. A painting of the church took place in the years 1911 to 1914 held by Prof. Kutschmann.
  • A great old copper beech stands in the cemetery south of the church tower. She was put under protection in 1967.
