Heiner Goebbels

Heiner Goebbels ( born August 17, 1952 in Neustadt on the Wine Route ) is a German musician, composer, radio play writer, director and professor of Applied Theatre Studies.

Life

Goebbels studied Sociology and Music in Freiburg and Frankfurt am Main, was co-founder of the So-called leftists brass band and played from 1975 to 1988 as a musician in a duo Goebbels / Harth and 1982-1992 in the experimental rock group Cassiber. He published about 20 CDs.

After numerous compositions for theater and film, he started in the mid 1980s radio plays, compose mostly on texts by Heiner Müller. Since the late 1980s, followed compositions for ensemble and scenic concerts, such as The Man in the Elevator and The Liberation of Prometheus. In the early 1990s he composed orchestral and ensemble pieces for the Young German Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, later for the Berlin Philharmonic ( 2003), the London Sinfonietta and the Orchestra in the Age of Enlightenment. He was composer in residence at the Lucerne Festival and at the Bochum Symphony Orchestra.

Since the mid- 1990s the focus of his work is on music-theater pieces, for example, with the Ensemble Modern, which are developed in a team of playwrights, stage designers, lighting designers, costume designers and sound designers and the world to many theater and music festivals were invited. In them, text, images, music, light, movement, and scene are all in a floating, equivalent ratio.

Among his works, there are also sound and video installations, such as " Timeios " for the Centre Pompidou in Paris, " Genko On" (Berlin, Darmstadt), " founder Things - The Unguided Tour" (London ) and numerous collaborations with video artists and choreographers.

Goebbels is since 1999 Professor at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, he has led from 2003 to 2011. Goebbels is a member of the Academy of Arts, the National Academy of Performing Arts and the North Rhine- Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Academy of Sciences and Literature, Mainz and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. Since autumn 2006, Goebbels President of the Hessian Theatre Academy, a composite of several universities and theaters of the Rhine -Main region.

Goebbels became the artistic director and artistic director of the Ruhr Triennale 2010 - appointed International Festival of the Arts from 2012 to 2014.

He lives in Frankfurt am Main.

Awards

Multiple Heiner Goebbels was honored for his radio plays with national and international radio play prices, including the Prix Italia in 1986, 1992 and 1996, the Karl Sczuka price in 1984, 1990 and 1992, the radio play der Kriegsblinden 1985, the radio play Academy Award of Arts in 1989, the World Silver Medal of the New York Festivals 2002 and the Radio Ostankino Moscow Prize in 1996.

In 2003, the German Critics Prize he was awarded in the subject music. The city of Frankfurt am Main honored him in 2002 with the Goethe plaque, the State of Hesse Hesse in 1993 with the Cultural Award. In 2008 he was awarded the Culture Prize Binding. In 2010, he received the Art Award Rhineland -Palatinate.

In addition to two Grammy nominations for Surrogate Cities and Eislermaterial many international theater awards were awarded to him, including 2001, the European Theatre Prize New Theatrical Realities and 2006, the price of the International Theatre Institute.

In 2011 he was awarded the prize of excellence in the teaching of the State of Hesse and the Hertie Foundation. For his life's work gave him the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2012 an honorary doctorate.

The fourth prize winner Goebbels received the 2012 International Ibsen Award.
