Heinrich Gottfried Philipp Gengler

Gottfried Heinrich Philipp Gengler ( born July 25, 1817 in Bamberg, † November 28, 1901 in Erlangen, Germany ) was a German legal historian, privy councilor and professor at the University of Erlangen.

Gengler studied at the universities of Würzburg and Heidelberg. In 1842 he received his doctorate in Erlangen and his Habilitation a year later. In 1847 he became an associate in 1851 and finally professor of German law. His son was the ornithologist Joseph Gengler.
