Heinrich Lefler

Heinrich Lefler ( born November 7, 1863 in Vienna, † March 17, 1919 ) was an Austrian painter, graphic artist and stage designer.

Life and work

Heinrich Lefler was born the son of Franz Lefler, who was also artist in Vienna.

He studied from 1880 to 1884 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Christian Griepenkerl, 1884 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Nicholas Gysi and Wilhelm von Diez. In 1891 he became a member of the Society of Austrian Artists, Artists' House. In 1900 he was a founding member of the Hagenbund.

From 1900 to 1903 Lefler was ( under the direction of Gustav Mahler ) facilities manager at the Vienna Court Opera. From 1903 to 1910 he was professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. Lefler and Joseph Urban
