Heinrich Strecker

Heinrich Strecker ( born February 24, 1893 in Vienna, † June 28, 1981 in Baden bei Wien ) was an Austrian composer of operettas and Viennese songs.

Life

Already in early childhood came after Strecker Theux (Belgium ) and spent at the local boarding Lazaristenordens of his school years. There was also recognized his talent for music and sparked his interest in it. At the end of his school days Strecker dominated twelve instruments.

By his own admission, the violin was his favorite instrument for which he also graduated from the master class. 1907 Strecker could debut with his first composition, a violin concerto in A major. This piece he was in the same year the Belgian King Leopold II was present and it also excellent.

1910 Strecker returned back to Vienna and started after the externists maturation in catfish a law degree from the University of Vienna. The outbreak of the First World War interrupted Streckers study. After that Strecker devoted exclusively to music; he studied for two years at Camillo Horn and initially composed classical works.

But on contract work, such as dance and film music, he soon came to the Viennese songs. For this kind of folk songs he was known; as for his singing games. He often worked with Fritz Löhner- Beda, F. Gerold, Alfred Steinberg Frank, Joe Gribitz and Bruno Hardt- Warden, which provided him with the lyrics and librettos.

On 21 December 1931, the première of his operetta girl from Vienna took place on middle-class Viennese theater. His musical comedy Annie of Tharaw, the Strecker had created together with Bruno Hardt- Warden, was premiered on September 20, 1933 in Breslau. Also the song Drunt ' in the Lobau ... comes from his pen.

Strecker in 1934 Gauobmann environment and local culture director of the banned in the Austro-Fascist Nazi Party and the National Socialist cultural community in Austria and thus " ex officio " member of the Austrian Nazi Party. In this role, he was briefly detained in 1936. His operetta The Eternal Waltz in 1937 in Bremen premiered. In the same year he became Vice President of the Austrian copyright society AKM. After the end of World War II he lived as before in Baden, Lower Austria, where he died at the age of 88 years on 28 June 1981. Strecker was married to Erika Strecker.

His tomb is located at the Helen cemetery in Baden.
