Heinrich von Cocceji

Heinrich Freiherr von Cocceji (pronounced kok'tse: ji * March 25, 1644 in Bremen, † August 18, 1719 in Frankfurt ( Oder) ) was a professor of natural and international law at the University of Heidelberg.

Heinrich Cocceji was a son of the city's harbor writer Heinrich Coch and Lucia Oldenburg, a sister of Henry Oldenburg. From 1673 closed marriage with Maria Salome Hougwart / Howard three sons were born, including Samuel Cocceji, Court of Appeal President and since 1747 the Grand Chancellor under Frederick II

After studying law at Leiden and Oxford (Ph.D. Dr. jur. Utr. ) Heinrich Cocceji came in 1671 as an associate professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Heidelberg. From 1677 to 1688 he taught at the law school, in 1689 he went for a year to Utrecht. From 1690 Cocceji was a full professor in Frankfurt ( Oder). Heinrich Cocceji received on September 7, 1702 the Prussian nobility and became Vienna March 3, 1713 raised to the kingdom baron.
