Heinz Chen

Heinz Chen (* 1983 in Vienna) is an Austrian- Taiwanese pianist and teacher.

Heinz Chen studied piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Wolfgang Watzinger, at the Sibelius Academy with Erik T. Tawaststjerna and at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold with Anatol Ugorski. Already during his studies he became involved in his father's hometown in Beigang, Taiwan, as a musician and educator and realized classes and concerts. In 2006 he took over the Beigang Music Festival and expanded it as artistic director for Beigang International Music Festival. In addition to his leadership position, he appeared there as a pianist and accompanist for winds. In 2007, he traveled together with the Rector of the University of Music Detmold, Martin Christian Vogel to Taiwan to the festival. In 2009, he expanded the festival of music for woodwind and brass instruments to vocals. The concept of the festival was next to artistic events closely connected with intercultural activities that Heinz Chen transposed among other things, experiences from the European Youth Parliament, to which he belonged at the 1999 meetings in Weimar and Hämeenlinna as Austrian delegate.

His pianistic career was in 2002 awarded the Bösendorfer Scholarship, 2006 with the 1st prize at Helmi Vesa Piano Competition in Helsinki and 2008 with the Special prize for his stage charm at the International Piano Competition in Santorini. With the Austrian violinist Roland Hölzl he played a CD with works by Fritz Kreisler for HypoVereinsbank Tyrol. His concerts with soprano Anna Krauja was documented by the Latvian Radio. Krauja and Chen are now married.

From August 2010 to July 2011 made ​​Heinz Chen memorial service at the Jewish Museum Berlin.
