Heinz Winkler

Heinz Winkler ( born May 7, 1910 in Chemnitz, † June 25, 1958 in Berlin) was a functionary of the CDU and the Minister for Construction of the GDR.

Life

As the son of a carpenter, he completed after attending the elementary and junior high school from 1927 to 1928 trained as a bricklayer and by 1932 a study civil engineering at the State Academy of Technology Chemnitz. He was until 1935 an architect and building contractor in Chemnitz, until 1936 clerk in army building department until 1941 Acid Protection Engineer in Siershahn and until 1945 a soldier of the Wehrmacht, most recently with the rank of sergeant. Since 1938 he was a member of the NSDAP.

1945-1949 Winkler was an independent architect in Adelberg. In 1948, he joined the CDU. 1949 to 1950 he was architect of the council of the district Chemnitz and head of the planning office of the district Chemnitz, until 1953 head of VEB planning Chemnitz and then director of the design office building by Stalin city. From November 1953 to 1958 he was the successor of Lothar Bolz Minister for construction of the GDR. He was a member of the Main Board, since 1956 the Bureau and since 1958 Chairman of the Advisory Board for construction of the CDU since 1954.

Winkler died as a result of a swimming accident during his summer holiday in Bulgaria. When bathing in the Black Sea, he has lost by a plunge serious injuries. In a special plane he was sent to Berlin, where he died at the government hospital days later.
