Heldenberg Memorial

The memorial Heldenberg in Lower Austria is home to statues and busts of Austrian rulers and members of the military. It was built in 1849 by Joseph Pargfrieder in his castle park at Kleinwetzdorf (municipality Heldenberg ).

History

Joseph Gottfried Pargfrieder grew rich supply of foodstuffs, footwear and fabrics to the army. In 1832 he bought the Wetzdorf castle. After the victory of Field Marshal Radetzky at Custozza and the suppression of the uprising in Hungary Pargfrieder was modeled after the Valhalla in his castle park a total of 169 still images and zinc busts of generals, commanders, soldiers and Austrian rulers of Rudolf I set up to Emperor Franz Joseph.

On the site of a residential home for military invalids ( an officer and twelve soldiers) was, together with its own tomb, the so-called lion tomb erected. The crew would have been intended as a guard of honor for the hero mountain; However, it never came about.

Since Pargfrieder paid the debt of Field Marshal Maximilian Freiherr von Wimpffen († 1854), and Field Marshal Radetzky († 1858), they were in the tomb Heldenberg bury, where Pargfrieder ( sitzend! ) is buried.

Monuments

Victory monuments
