Helga Mees

Helga Mees ( born July 12, 1937 in Saarbrücken) is a former German fencer who took to the Saarland as a junior in 1955 and second in the World Junior criterion.

The German champion with the foil of 1960 and 1961 took part in 1958 World Fencing Championships and won the team silver in 1958 and 1959 bronze. At the Olympic Games in 1960, she was with the team in fourth.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 she succeeded in the individual competition of the way into the final round, where they were after the first series with the Hungarian Ildikó Rejtő and the Italian Antonella Ragno Lonzi par. In the jump- the Hungarian Gold won before Helga Mees and Antonella Ragno. In the team competition, Heidi Schmid, Gudrun Theuerkauff, Rosemarie Schernberger and Helga Mees failed in the semifinals of the later Olympic champions from Hungary. In the small final, the Germans fought against the Italians and won bronze.

Following her marriage to a wrestler, she participated in the 1968 Olympic Games as Helga Volz- Mees. With the team they finished fifth here.
