Heligolandic dialect

The Helgoland Frisian ( proper name Halunder ) is spoken on Helgoland Frisian dialect. He belongs to the island Frisian branch of the North Frisian language. The dialect is now spoken by only around one-third of the 1,500 inhabitants of the island. In school and in adult education courses Heligolandish is taught. The Halunder is allowed on the island by the Frisian Act in addition to the standard German the official language for official use. The Community Library Helgoland has a historical component in Halunder.

In contrast to the spoken dialects in the district of North Friesland, the Helgoländische on a comparatively small Danish or Jutland influence, but it has been under a strong influence of Low German. Clearly this difference at the word is not: While all the other North Frisian dialects have here a Danish loan-word (for example Fering egg, Mooring ai) is used, the derived from the Low German ni in Halunder.
