Helmut Maucher

Helmut Oswald Maucher ( born December 9, 1927 in Eisenharz ) is a German manager and was general manager of Nestlé.

Educational, professional and career

When he was nineteen, Nestlé SA bought the dairy in iron resin in the Western Allgäu, where he and his father were employed. After high school he graduated from an apprenticeship. He then moved to Nestlé to Frankfurt, where time studying business administration and graduated as Diplom- Kaufmann.

From 1964 to 1980 he held various management positions at Nestlé Frankfurt, from 1975 he was Director General of the Nestlé Group Germany. On 1 October 1980 he was appointed to the Director General of Switzerland as Nestlé SA and Member of the Executive Committee.

In November 1981, he was appointed Delegate of the Board of Directors of Nestlé SA in Vevey. From 1990 to 1997 he was also President and Chief Executive Officer. At this time the Allgäu, the company built the largest food company in the world with over 260,000 employees. After his resignation as CEO he remained chairman of the board until 2000, when he was appointed honorary president. He was the first non- Swiss man who ever occupied such a prominent position in a Swiss companies.

The coined by Maucher term prosperity garbage with which he belittled people who are unwilling to work in 1997 became the word of the year.
