Hemitomes congestum

Hemitomes congestum is a plant of the family Ericaceae ( Ericaceae ) and the only species of its genus.

Description

Hemitomes congestum is a chlorophyll -less, myco - heterotrophic herbaceous plant. Their roots are fibrous, the sprouting from them shoot and inflorescence axis is upright and is creamy white to reddish. The leaves are simple, bracteoles absent.

The inflorescence is one to mehrblütig, branching is possible. The flowers are four - rare to sechszählig, sepals and bracteoles are present. The crown is tube- to bell-shaped, the petals are fused together. The stamens are about two-thirds as long as the crown, the anthers not turn around and are slit longitudinally. The stylus is constantly expanding the scar.

The ovary is achtfächrig and has parietal placentation on. The fruit is berry-like, the seeds are elliptic and thick-skinned.

The seeds are linear, thin-walled and have elongated cells. The chromosome number is n = 13

Dissemination

The species is found in the western United States at altitudes 30-2700 meters.

System

Species and genus were first described in 1858 by Asa Gray.
