Henning Larsen Architects

Henning Larsen Architects is an international architecture firm with headquarters in Copenhagen. The company was founded in 1959 by the Danish architect Henning Larsen and currently employs approximately 165 employees. 2011 the company worked on projects with in more than 20 countries.

The office Henning Larsen Middle East in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was founded in 2008 and 2011 came with additional offices in Munich, Beirut and Lebanon added.

2011, the concert hall Harpa in Reykjavík was chosen by the English magazine Gramophone as one of the ten best concert halls. Henning Larsen Architects has designed the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, in Germany the company is well known for the construction of the new mirror opened in December 2011, the main building in Hamburg's HafenCity.

Current projects include, inter alia, the new headquarters for Siemens in Munich, and a 1.6 million m² masterplan for the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

History

After having worked for Henning Larsen Arne Jacobsen (1952-1953) and Jørn Utzon (1958), he founded in 1959 Henning Larsens Tegnestue. With the company in the tradition of Scandinavian design, the architectural firm became one of the largest in Denmark. The first major project outside Scandinavia was the Foreign Ministry in Riyadh, through which the reputation of the company was established. In the 80s called Henning Larsen, the architecture magazine SCALE and an eponymous Architecture Gallery in life. As a professor of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts was Henning Larsen Architects great international architects, who were interviewed in SCALE, invite to give lectures at the Academy. This had a great impact on the new generation of Danish architects who were given a much greater international visibility than before. The magazine existed 10 years.

Ownership and management

Henning Larsen Architects is one of a group of partners from Henning Larsen, Mette Frandsen Kynne, Louis Becker, peer Teglgaard Jeppesen, Jacob Kurek and Lars Steffensen, there. There is also a group of associate partners who have a smaller part of the company shares to which Anne Marie Galmstrup, Ósbjørn Jacobsen, Signe Kongebro, Ingela Larsson, Ulrik Raysse, Anders and Søren Saelan Øllgaard include

The management of Henning Larsen Architects lead Mette Kynne Frandsen (CEO), Louis Becker ( International Design Director) and peer Teglgaard Jeppesen (Scandinavian Design Director ).

Sustainability and research

Sustainability and putting particular emphasis An important aspect of the projects on energy efficiency and conservation value, as can be seen in the project design for the new Siemens HQ. The company has a department for research and sustainability, which is led by the Associate Partner Signe Kongebro. The department takes part in discussions on climate and sustainability and developed several design tools which are on the known knowledge.

In the last four years, three students of the Technical University of Denmark, from the Institute of Civil Engineering have been working on various projects that have to do with sustainable design. The aim of the collaboration was to develop a future design method, which already implements sustainability in buildings and building elements at the beginning of a project.
