Henning Larsen

Henning Larsen ( born August 20, 1925 in Opsund ( Brejning Sogn ) at Ringkøbing, Denmark, † June 22, 2013 in Copenhagen) was a Danish architect and founder of the international architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects, who was known primarily for its cultural buildings. Larsen was one of the leading and well-known Scandinavian architects.

Life

Henning Larsen's father was a country school teacher in Opsund. In 1950, Larsen began to study architecture at the Architectural Association in London. After graduating in 1951 he was working for Arne Jacobsen and began studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. In 1952 he received a degree and traveled, funded by a grant to the United States.

In 1956, Larsen together with Max Brüel, Gehrdt Bornebusch and Jørgen Selchau an architectural firm, but left the group in 1959 and founded his own office, Henning Larsens Tegnestue. Since 1995, Larsen held a chair at the Art Academy in Copenhagen. In addition to its projects in Northern Europe Larsen worked in Saudi Arabia and Germany.
