Henry Bacon (painter)

Henry Bacon (* 1839 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, † April 13, 1912 in Cairo, Egypt) was an American painter.

Life

During the American Civil War Bacon fought in the Union Army. He reported on 16 July 1861, 13th Massachusetts Infantry, and parallel to this service, he acted iA the magazine Frank Leslie 's Weekly as a war artist.

On August 29, 1862 Bacon was severely wounded at the battle of Bull Run. After he was able to leave the hospital, he was placed with effect from December 19, 1862 out of service. In the following two years of convalescence married Elizabeth Bacon Lord and walked with her to Paris in 1864. There he was, inter alia, at the École des Beaux -Arts Student of Alexandre Cabanel.

During a study tour of the Middle East Henry Bacon died with more than 70 years in 1912 in Cairo.
