The study of the Theban king and his sister - daughter Antigone goes on poems from the Matière du soir cycle of 1964 and the second drama La machination (original and today again valid title: La Reine en amont ) from 1967/1968 back. These early activities reveal the extent to which the preceding poetry and prose is involved in the two large genera and text types busting narrative works that Bauchau itself as a " romantic " means and where the Belgian literary criticism willingly confers the equality with the work, the young, the national literature of Belgium has established, with Charles de Coster's epic La Légende et les aventures héroïques, joyeuses glorieuses et d' Ulenspiegel et de Lamme Goedzak au pays de Flandre et ailleurs.

In March 2003, La Monnaie opera was Œdipe sur la route welturaufgeführt with the music of Pierre Barthélémy, directed by Philippe Sireuil in the Brussels opera house. The poet himself had written the libretto. He is currently working on the libretto for Antigone to be set to music as an oratory by Pierre Barthélémy. A first collection of poems from 1950 to 1986 put Hubert Nyssen before 1986 under the title Poésies; It is the contribution of the publishing house Actes Sud, Arles, to have appreciated at an early stage the poet Bauchau. 1995, this issue was completed and published in the paperback series laboratory under the title Heureux les déliants. Henry Bauchau has found as a prose writer and poet worldwide recognition. This was first visible in the carried out in 2001 in Cerisy Congress came together to the researchers, young researchers, translators, theater people and young students from all over the world.

Nevertheless Bauchaus is dramatic work to date on the borders of the French -speaking countries also little known, despite being in Gengis Khan as La Reine en amont turns into the European theatrical tradition, and especially in his first piece, the transcript was started in 1954, the experience with Hitler's Germany processed from Belgian perspective. Gengis Khan also offers a starting point for a historical reading of the Mongol invasion, as for a psychoanalytic interpretation as an individual examination of the power, as eventually the replica on the barely processed, still present contemporary historical experience with a political, charismatic leader figure, its limits and its possibilities. Consequently this drama an original work-up of the Belgian-German relationship from the perspective of Walloons is that the political line of Leopold III. had connected and late, after the rexistischen infiltration of Volontaires du Travail continued with the active opposition and 1944 went to England.

Bauchau has settled after the war in Paris, before he went on for many years in Switzerland, Gstaad. There he received numerous friends to longer, literary stimulating visits, including Pierre Jean Jouve, Philippe Jaccottet and Ernst Jünger. 1975 Bauchau returned to Paris, participated in the seminars of Jacques Lacan and worked as a psychotherapist for psychotic adolescents. Most recently, he received hardly any patient and devoted himself largely of printing and the interpretation of his works as well as the transcript of his diaries and poems. The actor Patrick Bauchau ( born 1938 ) is his son.
