Henry Borwin II, Lord of Mecklenburg

Borwin Heinrich II, Duke of Mecklenburg (* 1170, † December 5, 1226 ) from the House of Obodrites, was Prince of Mecklenburg from 1219 to 1226 and Lord of Rostock ( 1225-1226 ).

Life & work

Heinrich Borwin II was a son of Henry I. Borwin and Matilda of Saxony. In 1200 he married Christina of Sweden († after the May 20, 1248 ), the daughter of King Sverker II of Sweden. He was grandson of the Slavic princes Pribislaw, the founder of the family of the Obodrites. When he died in Güstrow in 1226, the country was ruled by his four sons together. In 1234 came the break and the principality was divided into the First Mecklenburg main division of the state. Thus, the principalities ( gentlemen ) Werle, Parchim Rich Mountain, Rostock and Mecklenburg emerged.
