Henry Burk

Henry Burk ( born September 26, 1850 in Knittlingen, Württemberg, † December 5, 1903 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician of German origin. Between 1901 and 1903 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Already in 1854 came Henry Burk with his parents from his native Germany after Phildalphia, where he spent three years attended the public schools. Then he went into the shoemaker trade. He developed into a specialist in the manufacture and repair of the required in this profession machines. Later he acted with spare parts for these machines. He also manufactures leather goods. In 1877 he invented a new method that revolutionized this industry. In 1895, Burk president of the National Association of Craftsmen (Manufacturer 's National Association). Politically, he joined the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1900, Burk was the second electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats William McAleer on March 4, 1901. After a re-election, he could remain until his death on December 5, 1903 in Congress.
