Henry Grant (British Army officer)

Sir Henry Fane GCB GCVO Grant ( born December 13, 1848April 22, 1919 ) was a British officer.

Henry Fane Grant comes from the family of the Grants of Auchendoun / Auchterblair, a Scottish clan that was founded in 1732 and goes back to the Grants of Tullochgorm. His father, Sir Patrick Grant, was Field Marshal of the British Army, his mother Frances Mary was the daughter of Hugh Gough, 1st Viscount Gough. Grant came in 1868 with the 4th ( The Queen's Own) Regiment of Hussars at the service of the British Army one. This cavalry regiment was established in 1685 and stayed for nearly three centuries until 1958 consist. The service as an officer in the cavalry was reserved at the time, wealthy men. Grant was performed in 1868 as a cornet in the regiment.

Grant then served in the Egyptian army and reached there the rank of Brevet Lieutenant - Colonel. General Grant was appointed after his return to the UK for Inspector of Cavalry ( Inspector - General of Cavalry ). In the British armed forces, a general inspector was primarily responsible for education and training of the troops, a command was not associated with this post. His successor in this position in 1903 General Robert Baden- Powell, the British reorganized the cavalry comprehensively. Then took over Grant in command of the 5th Infantry Division. This division was set up in 1807 by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington and was one of the major active associations in the British Army. Following the command of the Division Clarke was transferred command of the II Corps. This corps should be placed from the Southern Command for the defense of the British Isles.
