Henry Home, Lord Kames

Henry Home Kames (* 1696 in Berwickshire, † December 27, 1782 ), later Lord Kames, was a Scottish lawyer and philosopher.

Kames in 1724 admitted in court and in 1752 a judge of the Scottish Civil Court ( Court of Session ), and appointed in 1763 to the Lord Commissioner of Justiciary for Scotland (Lord of Justiciary ).

He was particularly known for his work "Principles of Criticism" (Elements of Criticism ). The Sketches of the History of Man (1774 ) were ( "Even a philosophy of history in the formation of mankind," 1774) is of crucial importance for Herder's philosophy of history.
